Medusa : Jewelry and taboos

The Medusa exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art of Paris takes a contemporary look at the jewel, which is fascinating for both artists and the public, revealing certain taboos.

The jewel attracts or disturbs, according to its way of being carried or its material. Halfway between sculpture and adornment, it is one of the oldest forms of art but is not considered as a work of art. The avant-garde artists have reinvented it, and removed it from its too primitive, ornamental and feminine sides.

Artistic jewelry, ethnic jewelry, designed jewelry . haute-joaillerie, the exhibition presents more than 400 pieces by artists such as Picasso, Niki de Saint Phalle ..., designers such as Rene Lalique, Line Vautrin ..., contemporary jewelers Such as Karl Fristch, Otto Künzli ..., and jewelers such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels ...
